There’s a saying in Chile that when God finished making the world,
he had a bit of every kind of landscape leftover: desert, forest,
mountains. So he put them all together and made Chile. At the deep
end of south America, Stretching 3,000 miles from top to bottom,
having the warm climate of central South America and touching
frigid Antarctica in south, Chile’s length has a wide range of climates
and habitats that has nearly every kind of environment one can
imagine. Chile has been awarded as the best adventure tourism
destination for the sixth year in a row from 2015 to 2021, at the world travel awards, an award ceremony
that is known in industry as the Oscars of tourism. I was fortunate to visit and live in Santiago, Chile for a
good 5 years where I could experience meeting new people, exploring natural beauty, experiencing a very
different culture, tasting new food, and learning new language. During this period I had an opportunity to
explore multiple places and countries but possibly the most pleasing
town of all of them is in Pucon, Villarrica – The village of gold.
Villarrica is a wonder town of snowcapped magical active volcano,
deep blue lake, rock & volcanic sand and deep forests. Villarrica
volcano is one of the only known Volcanoes to have an active lava
Lake within its crater. Its conical formation is a work of nature,
almost perfect in shape, making it recognizable at the first glance.
The smoke coming out from crater is visible from large distance and
leaves a lifelong impression on one’s mind. We visited there with a group of friends, and started our
journey up, early morning, packed in multiple layers of clothes, gloves and cap. The journey moves from
easy to greater intensity firstly in inclination and second in temperature which decreases as we go up.
Leaving the land behind, we found ourselves walking in white and dusty snow for a few hours. Reaching
the top felt like a success after a long tiring day of travel. Coming down, Warm hospitality awaited us at
cafés and shops in the village giving us warmth in the cold weather. The fascinating experience is hard to
forget, so much so, that I named my daughter – Villarrica, to keep the memories alive for lifetime.
